Carneiro Travel Award

Luis Carneiro was a wonderful and valued supporter of the J.B. Johnston Club. For many years he coordinated the publishers’ book display and subsequent give-away to his fellow graduate students. In his honor and as a memorial, beginning in 2002, the graduate student coordinator of the book display has asked for two copies of each book from the publishers and we have given away one book to the grad students while “silently” auctioning off another copy. The purpose of the auction was to raise funds in Luis’s memory to bring students from overseas to participate in the annual meeting of the J.B. Johnston Club.

Our travel fund has reached sufficient funds so that we can now offer an award to a deserving student from overseas. The monetary award of at least $500 is intended to serve as an incentive and lower the barrier to students who would otherwise not be able to attend the J. B. Johnston Club meeting.

The deadline for applications for the Carneiro award for 2012 will be announced in early 2012.
